Pamukkale Travertines — Visitor Guide, Tickets & Tips

Pamukkale Travertines

The Pamukkale Travertines are the brilliant white calcium-carbonate terraces that give the town its name ('cotton castle'). Warm mineral water flows down the cliffside and over thousands of years has built these unique formations, now protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with Hierapolis.

How to get there: A 5-minute walk from Sinter Terasse Hotel. The lower gate is the closest entry.

Opening hours: Daily, typically 06:30–24:00 in summer season. Winter hours shorten.

Best time to visit: Early morning (cool water, light crowds) or sunset (the terraces turn orange and gold). Avoid midday in July–August.

What to bring: Swimwear under light clothing; shoes will be carried as you walk the terraces barefoot. Sunscreen and water in summer.

Practical tips: A single entry ticket covers both the travertines and Hierapolis above. The white surface is protected — no shoes allowed and do not pick the mineral deposits.
